Nightjar
London
The definition of ‘secret speakeasy’.
Nightjar practically invented the modern speakeasy bar when it opened in London 15 years ago. Enter through an unmarked door on an unsuspecting street and head down a darkened staircase, where you’ll be met with tinted mirrors, art deco cabinets (filled with rare and vintage spirits from the actual Prohibition) and dimly-lit corners fitted with leather booths. An always-on soundtrack of live jazz from the band on stage is the cherry on top of a cocktail ‘anthology’ filled with homages to and twists on great drinks from cocktail history.
Sure, it’s an incredibly beautiful place to while away an evening, but it’s this level of detail, imagination and historical references in the cocktails that makes Nightjar truly legendary. A cocktail from 1899 anyone?
Why we love it
The Vibe: Fancy and classy with polished service
The Food: It’s all about the drinks here
The Drink: Creative cocktails meticulously put together, blending premium spirits with house-made infusions, syrups and bitters.

Old Street sits at the overlap of Shoreditch, Hoxton and Clerkenwell, which means options. Coffee shops, spots for sips and nibbles and open air art in the form of the most grabbing graffiti spill out in every direction, with transport running late to keep pace.
