Llama Inn
London
One of New York's biggest restaurants comes to the rooftop of The Hoxton, Shoreditch.
Known for putting the rich culinary heritage of Peru through a New York lens, Llama Inn opened to critical acclaim in Brooklyn in 2015, picking up several awards along the way: including a Bib Gourmand; a spot in the New York Times’ Top 100 Restaurants list 2023; and a James Beard Award ‘Outstanding Chef’ finalist placing for Erik Ramirez (that’s like the Oscars of the food world).
In London, the restaurants runs along the seventh floor of the hotel, with a glass roof and a wall of huge windows that drench the place with sunshine during the day and looks out to a skyline of city lights at night. Expect pork shoulder buns with sweet potato; scallops with yuzu kosho & pitahaya (which is a cactus, by the way); and their take on a caesar salad but with bok choy instead.
When it comes to drinks, there’s even more awards to mention. Bar Director, Natasha Bermudez, has a couple of James Beard and Tales of the Cocktail award nominations under her belt, and she’s brought a couple of the classics that helped cement her reputation in the drinks industry: including the ‘Chupetini’ or ‘one shot martini’, which blends gin with something called umami bomb and blue cheese olives.
Why we love it
The food: an award-winning modern approach to Peruvian cuisine
The drink: a wholly original cocktail list specifically designed to be enjoyed in concert with the dishes
The vibe: a relaxed Shoreditch restaurant that still feels celebratory - and with life-changing ceviche
