Classic Mama Shelter - maximalist to the core, with a touch of 1970s glamour.

In the open-plan ground floor of Mama Shelter London Shoreditch, there’s a mish-mash of lampshades – tassled, wicker, and in the shape of Mexican sombreros hanging from a graffitied chalkboard ceiling. Mismatched chairs, Liberty London prints, shelves full of London-centric books, beaded masks, and animal-shaped ceramics complete the picture. It’s safe to say that you could never call Mama Shelter basic or beige.

It’s all about having fun here: there’s a courtyard with a retractable roof, the perfect spot for sipping cocktails, while inside there’s table football, a giant built-in Twister board, and retro video games. Even the gym is fun, with black and white striped walls and colour-pop accents. The best bit? The two, sound-proofed, Japanese-style karaoke rooms in the basement, complete with neon lighting, 1950s-style microphones, two screens and plenty of lounging space. Try and stop yourself from belting out ‘Mama, I love you’.
