Where to go in

April

Could April be the best month to travel? Spring is in full bloom and temperatures are steadily on the up, making it a 30-day period of pleasantly off-peak holidaying. It feels like summer has come early in Europe - and in the Middle East and parts of America, it has well and truly arrived. So, whether you’re looking to find out where is hot in April or are simply looking for the best long weekend break over Easter or Eid, discover our guide to the best places to visit in April 2024 - and where to stay across The Dis-loyalty Collective when you’re there.

Barcelona

Temperatures in the Spanish capital reach the early 20ºCs this month – the perfect temperature to head to its beaches and swim in the sea or sit, drink in hand, by a rooftop pool. The city is best explored through its architecture: think Casa Vicens, Park Guell, and Sagrada Familia (you just so happen to get the best view of this from the rooftop pool at The Hoxton, Poblenou, by the way). April is also a month of parades in Barcelona: first comes the ecclesiastical solemnity of Holy Week leading up to Easter; then, a more lively fiesta, the Feria de Abril, a replication of Seville’s traditional parties, music, vibrant costumes, Sevillanos on horseback and flamenco dancers.

Lisbon

If you were putting a checklist together of every vital component that makes up a great weekend break, Lisbon would have them all. Amazing places to eat and drink; a burgeoning art and design scene; and interesting old corners to explore. And it's beside the sea. You could go to Lisbon at any time – though April is the ultimate time to visit, when the days are long and sunny and the crowds manageable.

Dubai

Dubai is a sun-seeker’s paradise all year round, but things start to warm up in April – it’s the start of the UAE’s official summer season, after all. You can spend days lounging in beach clubs or by the hotel pool before balmy evenings exploring the glitz and glamour of the marina. The city constantly dreams big, opening new things for visitors to do at a mesmerising pace, so it’s the perfect place to be Dis-loyal and do something different. Spanning Ramadan and Eid, April also marks a very different season from any other time of the year in Dubai, where friends and family gather to eat, chat and play late into the night.

Miami

Miami comes alive in April with long sunny days and warm-but-not-humid weather – perfect for mornings exploring the arts district and afternoons at the beach. It’s also still spring break season, so the city is lively and energised, but crucially it’s not peak season, so the party atmosphere feels like it’s all for you. There’s Miami Beach Pride, The Miami Open, and Madonna, who’s in town for two nights of her Celebration tour.

Vienna

Voted one of the world’s most livable cities, Vienna obviously isn’t a bad place for a weekend away either. An ever-evolving capital city providing the perfect harmony of old and new, it has beautiful wide boulevards and cobbled streets that wind alongside the glittering Danube, grand concert halls, and even grander coffee houses, as well as an exciting contemporary art scene, a crop of new foodie hotspots, and modernist architectural gems. April is also the month when the brand-new Hoxton officially sets up home in one of those gems, a 1950s Carl Appel-designed building in the buzzy 3rd district. Mexico City

Think of Mexico and you may think of its iconic Day of the Dead celebrations, which take place in November. While this parade is a bucket-list thing to behold, April in Mexico City has its own once-in-a-lifetime situation going on. The city will see a total lunar eclipse on 8th April 2024. Significant planetary activity aside, April is the month to experience the city without the heat and humidity of summer, meaning you can enjoy its UNESCO World Heritage sites, art and design destinations like the Frida Kahlo Museum and Luis Barragán House and Studio, and its inimitable street life and colourful markets comfortably and with no crowds.

Maldives

Pristine white sandy beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and vibrant coral reefs teeming with marine life (not to mention at least 8 hours of sun a day and average temperatures of 28ºC year-round) – there is never a bad time to visit Maldives. April, however, is the final month of the dry season, with little rain and low humidity for cloudless days and still, balmy evenings. It’s also the final month where members can stay at SO/ Maldives with 50% off.
