Mama’s Restaurant

Dijon

A playground of a restaurant, where the words ‘fun’, ‘uplifting’, and ‘inspiring’ apply to the interiors and the food.

A Mama’s Restaurant always spices up your life and the Dijon hotspot is no exception - this is a region famed for its mustard, after all. Alongside the hearty, home-made classics we all know and love, the condiment, unsurprisingly, features prominently in the form of a collaboration with Edmond Fallot, a family-run, independent mustard maker since 1840.

The restaurant itself is a literal work of art from top to bottom: pillars are decorated with frescoes by Beniloys; golden ceramics are by Arnold du Bazar d'Alger; and the floor has two symmetrical carpets by Laureline Galliot where jacks clash, a reference to the archaeological digs that took place during the construction.

Why we love it

The food: Exciting yet comforting dishes befitting the International City of Gastronomy and Wine

The drink: Characteristically cheeky cocktails alongside an interesting curation of wines

Where you'll be

Downtown

Housed in a landmark building, Mama Shelter is right next to Saint-Bénigne Cathedral in downtown Dijon. Listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List, Dijon is the International City of Gastronomy and Wine, thanks to its unique culinary traditions and famous vineyards. When you’re not busy tasting your way through your favourite vintages, sample Dijon’s artisanal fare at the city's largest food market Les Halles, renowned for everything from mustard to the liqueur Cassis. Don’t forget to try the pain d’epices at Mulot et Petitjean, which boasts a whole museum dedicated to the art of French gingerbread. Wander the old town where building styles range from Gothic to Art Deco, and admire the collection at the Musée des Beaux-Arts, housed in the vast Palace of the Dukes, which holds a rich collection of paintings, sculptures, crafts, and antiquities.
