Jacob the Angel
Sydney
Part café, part bakery, this all-day haven makes ritual out of the everyday.
Jacob the Angel is an independent coffee house with a reputation that far outweighs its size. The name tips a hat to Jacob, who opened England’s first coffee house back in 1651, but the spirit here is entirely modern.
Freshly ground beans and a pared-back interior do the luring; specialist coffee anchors the menu, flanked by tahini madeleines and fresh-out-the-oven sausage rolls. Some come for a quick espresso, others for a slice of the now-famous coconut cream pie and a good read. Either way, once is never enough
Why we love it
The drinks: Espresso, flat white, pour-over: whatever your allegiance, it’s done right here.
The food: From flaky pastries to scrumptious sandwiches and soups, everything is made from scratch each morning.
The vibe: A modern coffeehouse with global roots and a neighbourhood soul.
