Dirty Lemon
Paris
A cocktail bar for the girls.
With Dirty Lemon, chef Ruba Khoury disrupts the overwhelmingly male culture around cocktails and the bars where they are drunk. Down a side street of Paris’ 11th arrondissement, a neon lemon sign shines out as a zesty beacon of warmth and inclusion, a space where everyone – but particularly queer women – feel welcome.
There’s nary a rainbow flag in sight, though. Instead, stone walls and pale pink and copper accents surround the bar, which is decked out with high stools and garnished with dried flower bouquets and brightly coloured, homemade cordials, syrups and bitters. There are also big open-plan windows that bathe cocktail sippers in the most beautiful light come sunset.
Why we love it
The Vibe: Feminine, but not too girly; unassuming, but still tres chic
The Food: More of a draw than at most Parisian cocktail bars, combining Chef Koury’s background in some of the city’s Michelin-starred kitchens with her Palestinian background
The Drink: The classics infused with herbs like sage, sumac and aloe vera - with irresistible tongue-in-cheek names
