Counting House
Durham
A celebration of North Carolina’s rich seafood history.
Local seafood and regional specialties take center stage at Counting House, with local shellfish, oysters, and fish prepared with reimagined (and well-traveled!) Southern techniques – think Goujon fried chicken with gochujang and black garlic aioli or squid-ink Cavatelli with crawfish, ‘nduja, and coconut milk.
Weekend brunches are a must, for hearty sandwiches like the Fried Oyster Po’boy or the delicious Smoked Salmon BLT.
Late night, guests are encouraged to grab a cocktail at the bar to be enjoyed downstairs in the building’s original bank vault.
Why we love it
The Vibe: Dramatic, with soaring ceilings and artful sculptures
The Food: Familiar favourites with unexpected touches
The Drinks: Wine, craft cocktails, and an extensive list of bourbon

Where you'll be
Downtown
Perfectly situated in downtown Durham, 21c Museum Hotel and Counting House are located in the historic Hill Building: a 1930’s art-deco grand dame designed by architecture firm Shreve, Lamb & Harmon best known for designing NYC’s Empire State Building. Part contemporary art museum, part hotel, it has rotating exhibitions on display throughout multi-level galleries.
Further afield, this former tobacco town has emerged as a forward-thinking Southern city with a cultural and gastronomic scene to match. Take in a performance at the Durham Performing Arts Center and explore the curated collection at Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University. A former Lucky Strike cigarette factory, the American Tobacco Campus has been transformed into a one-million square foot entertainment district within walking distance to the hotel. Nature lovers will find themselves in close proximity to the Eno River and Blue Ridge Mountains where hiking trails, kayak excursions, and hot air balloon rides are waiting to be discovered.
