Black Lacquer
London
A cocktail bar for music lovers.
Underneath Hyde London City, Black Lacquer is a moody subterranean drinking den inspired by Japanese listening bars.
There's a weekly line-up featuring an eclectic mix of vinyl DJs alongside an ever-growing and developing record collection - and drinks, of course. Served in Shotoku and Kimura glassware over hand-carved ice, the cocktails are slick and playful, and complemented by a curated array of sake, shochu, and Japanese draft beer. All those good tunes and good sips making you feel peckish? There's a menu of Izakaya-style small plates to excite your tastebuds.
Why we love it
The Drink: A menu of expertly balanced cocktails inspired by Japan and devised by Michele del Negro (a legend of London's bar scene)
The Food: Izakaya-style small plates designed to be shared and eaten with your hands
The Vibe: An underground drinking den with the best playlist in the city

Where you'll be
City of London
You couldn't be better placed for exploring the City of London than at Hyde (the clue is in the neighbourhood name, after all). World-famous landmarks St. Paul's Cathedral and Old Bailey are literally on the doorstep, while the iconic music and arts destination Barbican Centre and the showrooms, concept stores and galleries of Clerkenwell, home to the eponymous Design Week, are within easy walking distance. A short walk away, the Central Line will take you further into the city and out west to neighbourhoods similarly steeped in music, art and design history.
